Wildflowers: November 27th
Our Earthkeepers enjoyed a sunny November day with the colder temperature providing fun opportunities for play!
For some girls it was their first time learning about our fairy friend Finny. Today Finny had a message for us about fire. Fire can give us warmth, help us cook food, or provide a cozy atmosphere. But fire also needs to be shown and care and respect, like all things in nature.
The birds know the schedule now and were chirping for their breakfast! After giving them their seeds we packed up for a trip to The Flats. Right before we left, our littlest Earthkeeper spotted a HUGE bird in the neighbours tree. Maybe she heard that we make food offerings, but I’m not sure we have anything that would interest her!
With some teamwork we managed to get the wagon to The Flats, where there were many opportunities for play and discovery.
Did a beaver make those marks on the tree, or were humans involved?
How many ducks did we count coming towards us?
Were there any geodes inside the stones?
The freezing temperature provided the most fun - breaking ice! Earthkeepers enjoyed seeing who could pick up the biggest piece, smashing them on the rocks, and wondering why there was ice in some spots, but the river was still flowing…
Back at Heron Tree Estates the girls enjoyed some cozy reading time in the hammocks. I was even invited to snuggle in and the littlest Earthkeeper and I enjoyed having a story read to us!
It turns out Finny was writing to us about fire for a reason. We lit one so we could make bannock and cook it on a stick. A good chunk of the afternoon was spent experimenting with different ratios of ingredients, how thick to roll it, and what cooking method might work best.
We ended the day with a game of Hide and Seek that started in the yard, but eventually moved to the side of the house where there more opportunities to hide and run!
Thanks for a great day Earthkeepers!
