Wildflowers: November 20th
Earthkeepers gathered this misty morning and discovered a new neighbour! Finny the Fairy moved in and wrote us a letter.
We’ve been noticing lots of birds enjoying the food we put out for them, and wondered which birds we will continue to see over the winter. With that on our minds we went on our own migration journey. It’s tough to be a bird heading south, there are so many hazards including polluted water, power lines, cats, and construction.
As we headed out to explore we kept track of all the birds we saw, geese, ducks, seagulls, and osprey. One Earthkeeper noticed a ton of fish in the water, and we enjoyed guessing where they might be headed.
When we returned to Heron Tree Estates we were delighted to find several different birds at the feeders. As we ate lunch we saw chickadees, blue jays, cardinals, and even a woodpecker!
Our littlest Earthkeepers wish from a few weeks ago came true and we made birdhouses. What kind of bird will build a nest? Hummingbird was one guess, we’ll have to wait and see!
Earthkeepers enjoyed the rest of the afternoon playing, with activities like searching for geodes, jumping in the leaf pile, creating a pretend animal sanctuary, and bird watching at the park.
We ended the day with sharing the things we enjoyed, and wishes for what we can do next time. With a hug to Sarah the Maple Tree we say goodbye until next week.
Thanks for a great day Earthkeepers!
