Sprouts: March 27th

After a two-week break, it was wonderful to be back with our Sprouts group, reconnecting and diving into the magic of the changing season. The sun greeted us, but as Finny reminded us in her letter, "Spring and Winter have been playing tag!" Inspired by this, we created our own version of the game, with one player as "Winter," freezing others with a tag, and teammates working together to thaw them. As the game evolved, the kids introduced a new twist—one player became the Sun, the only one who could bring warmth back to the frozen. Their creativity and enthusiasm were contagious, setting the tone for a playful, imaginative day.

After all that running around, we settled in for snack and a story—Chickadee, Criminal Mastermind. This tale of a daring chickadee discovering a vault of gold had us all captivated, but the real excitement came when our real-life chickadee friends, Lock and Stock, arrived at the feeder beside us! They weren’t alone—Claire and Clarence, our sparrow visitors, joined the scene, while a crowd of grackles perched above, and a blue jay made a dramatic flyover. Inspired by our feathered audience, the Earthkeepers had a blast mimicking bird calls, filling the air with Chicka-dee-dee’s and Cheese-bur-ger’s.

Getting back in the swing of things—literally!—we put up the hammocks, much to everyone's delight. The boys transformed theirs into a pirate ship, braving stormy seas as they discovered new islands, while our older Earthkeeper enjoyed a more peaceful voyage, though we still heard a few hearty "Yo-ho’s!" from her cozy cocoon.

Our afternoon adventure took us down to The Flats, where spring truly made itself known. Sitting on the sun-warmed beach, we built stick rafts, improvised fishing apparatuses, and kept watch for birds. Near the bridge, one Earthkeeper fully embraced the water spirit, transforming into a mermaid—though he was quite firm that his tail required no decorations!

Back at Heron Tree Estates, we squeezed in some final moments of mud kitchen play and one last hammock adventure before it was time to say goodbye—until next week, when our next adventure awaits!

Thanks for a great day Earthkeepers!
