Sprouts: January 30th

This week it was my turn to share something during our Opening Circle. A female deer skull prompted conversations about ethically harvesting what Nature provides, as well as a revisit of Greet, Ask, Listen, Thank.

Earthkeepers continue to enjoy snow spray art, and are getting creative in other ways.

They had spent time digging holes earlier, so decided to spray them with bright colours so nobody would trip. Great risk assessment and mitigation!

They also used some of the broken ice they had coloured to make a puzzle!

After lunch we ventured down to the river to visit our fish friends. Fishing is a great opportunity to sit in Nature. With a lot of patience and some different techniques, several fish were caught and released. Earthkeepers thanked the fish for “letting us catch you” and were ready to move on to some more exploring.

Spotting tracks is easy in the snow, and we saw rabbit, squirrel, dog, and duck prints. Duck prints outnumbered all the others, and we got to see them up close as we offered food.

Earthkeepers named the white duck Alfred. This type of duck is usually kept by humans, but he showed up a few years ago and is doing fine living in the wild.

We accidentally attracted geese as well, but they’re quite friendly at the moment. We will definitely be keeping our distance when they start laying eggs!

We could have sat in the sunshine making friends with our animal kin for hours, but eventually had to say goodbye and head home.

Thanks for a great Earthkeepers!
